Spendolini-Sirieix and partner Lois Toulson delivered under pressure with a stunning final dive as they made their Olympics dream come true.

The duo were delighted and could not contain their emotions when the result was confirmed, jumping and gleefully hugging each other.

Then the tears began to flow as they were interviewed by the BBC’s Sarah Mulkerrins and makeshift reporter Fred.

Spendolini-Sirieix wiped her eyes as she said: “I’m so happy. I usually have so much to say – but I don’t have anything to say today.

“Having my family here and doing it alongside Lois, it’s been a crazy two years.

“I have grown so much as a person alongside her – not just as an athlete – I’m so happy.

“If anyone could do it, it would be us.”

Meanwhile, there were tears in her father’s eyes, who added: “What a competition, it is always a rollercoaster with you two girls, you really took me round the bend and through the middle.

“They have won a medal and they have shown their class.

“I’m very impressed, I’m happy for you and I’m so proud. Well done.”

The heartwarming interview ended with Fred embracing his daughter.

Fred , 52, became famous as the maitre d’hotel on the Channel 4’s hit show First Dates.

He has since starred with chefs Gordon Ramsay and Gino D’Acampo on their ITV Road Trip programme.
