As India.Arie sang on her 2006 song , Simone Biles is clearly “not her hair.”

The history-making gymnast recently found herself defending her crown after critics pointed out that her hair was a bit untamed during the 2024 Paris Olympics . However, a massive heatwave hit the City of Lights, with temperatures reaching 98.6F on Tuesday (Jul 30).

Biles has now clapped back at critics on her Instagram Story, asking people not to worry about a “Black girl’s hair.” She also noted that she’s been traveling on a bus with no air conditioner.

“Don’t come for me about my hair. IT WAS DONE but bus has NO AC & it’s like 9,0000 degrees, oh and a 45 min ride,” she captioned a photo of her with a sleeker pony tail. “Gonna hold your hand when I say this [kiss emoji] next time you wanna comment on a black girls hair. JUST DON’T.”

The eight-time Olympic medalist spoke with Elle last month, where she discussed her hair and how she’s had to dedicate more time to it as part of her self-care routine.

“Nobody taught me [how to do my hair],” the 27-year-old said. “I always went to the professionals. I’m finally learning to love my hair and the texture that I have and the styles that I can do.”

The Ohio-bred athlete also admitted that she knew her hair could become a topic while competing in Paris, and for that reason she worried about her hair looking “professional.”

“I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional. But I’m not embarrassed about it anymore,” she added.

(L-R) Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee and Jade Carey of Team United States celebrate winning the gold medal during the Artistic Gymnastics Women’s Team Final on day four of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Clearly what’s on Biles’ head doesn’t affect her skills on the floor, as she’s now the most decorated gymnast in Olympic history, with 38 world championship and Olympic medals.

On Tuesday, Biles continued her trek of greatness with her teammates, as they took home the gold for the U.S. women’s team.
