More than a month ago, it was reported that Sony Pictures was planning a St. Elmo’s Fire sequel with the intention of bringing back its original cast members, including Rob Lowe , Demi Moore , Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, and Mare Winningham.

What did Rob Lowe say about the St. Elmo’s Fire sequel?

During a recent interview, Lowe confirmed the ongoing development of the St. Elmo’s Fire sequel, revealing that the studio has indeed approached the cast about it. However, he shared that the project is still in the very “early stages” of development.

“This is a real thing. It’s very, very, very, very, very early stages, and I don’t really wanna say more than that, other than it’s early stages, real thing,” he said (via Screen Rant ).

Released in 1985, the film was directed by the late Joel Schumacher from a screenplay he co-wrote with Carl Kurlander. It follows the lives of a group of friends after they’ve graduated from college, as they each deal with the challenges that come with adulthood. Despite receiving negative reviews, it still went on to become a box office hit with a gross of over $37 million against a reported budget of $10 million.

This comes after McCarthy recently released a documentary titled Brats, which features McCarthy interviewing some members of The Brat Pack as they discuss how being part of the unofficial Hollywood club affected their personal lives and careers. The term “Brat Pack” was given to a group of rising young actors in the 1980s who starred together in John Hughes movies such as The Breakfast Club, Sixteenth Candles, and Pretty in Pink. Despite not being directed by Hughes, St. Elmo’s Fire has been widely considered a Brat Pack movie.
