Better Lovers — the supergroup featuring former members of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Every Time I Die — have announced their debut full-length album, Highly Irresponsible , out October 25th via SharpTone Records. They also dropped the lead single and video “A White Horse Covered in Blood.”

The vitriolic track takes off at a sprint, with spitfire vocals from Greg Puciato and a barrage of guitar riffs that hit a satisfying sweet spot between thrash metal and hardcore. The second half of the song features a huge breakdown after a lengthy and highly effective musical rest — one that’s long enough for Puciato to smash a mic stand through a wall in slow motion in the accompanying music video.

“Playing and hearing our own music makes us want to run through walls,” said guitarist Jordan Buckley of the Eric Richter-produced video. “So we made a video where, while playing and hearing our own music, we run through walls. This ain’t rocket surgery!”

For a band that just introduced itself 16 months ago, Better Lovers have already embarked on two tours, released an EP, and landed the No. 1 song (“30 Under 13”) on Heavy Consequence ‘s list of the Best Metal & Hard Rock Songs of 2023 . Now, they’ll add a full-length album come late October.

In addition to Puciato (ex-Dillinger Escape Plan) and Buckley (ex-Every Time I Die), the supergroup is rounded out by guitarist Will Putney (Fit for an Autopsy), bassist Steve Micciche (ex-Every Time I Die), and drummer Clayton Holyoak (ex-Every Time I Die, ex-Norma Jean). Putney also handled production and engineering on the new album.

“Writing and recording our first full length was slightly more surgical than the EP, but had a similar lack of restraint,” stated Buckley. “I feel more pressure giving a quote for this press release than I felt all winter in Will’s studio. I got to wake up every day and watch the masters perfect their craft. I was a student. It was a playground. Everything was funny. We were reading each other’s minds. Even creating our own language at some points.

He continued: “I didn’t know if I was watching my closest friends write music, or if I was watching music use us to exist. The voice in my head warning me how Highly Irresponsible it was to hop on this bull again was gone. Replaced by big ideas, inside jokes, and a rejuvenated love for helping to write songs that don’t sound like anything else. Humans and animals alike are programmed to do wild things for what they love. Highly Irresponsible things. And we love what we’ve created. We know you will too.”

Better Lovers are set to perform at the Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals this fall, as well as their own holiday festival in Buffalo, New York, in December.

You can pre-order Highly Irresponsible on vinyl and CD via SharpTone Records . Check out the video for “A White Horse Covered in Blood” and see the album art and tracklist below.
