    Raising awareness for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

    ALA MOANA, Hawaii (KHON2) — July 30 is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, which promotes raising awareness about human trafficking and the public is invited to a sign-waving event with Hoola Na Pua.

    Hoola Na Pua is a non-profit organization seeking systemic change through a multi-faceted community collaboration that provides the resources, policies and practices that produce a solution to the crime of sex trafficking in Hawaii.

    Wake Up 2Day’s Chris Latronic went live off Ala Moana Blvd and Atkinson Drive, the sight of today’s sign-waving event, to learn more about World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and how Hoola Na Pua is organizing a statewide sign0waving event to unite our community in raising awareness about human trafficking and exploitation.

    Leslie Nollie and Andrew Aguirre provided vital information about the current state of trafficking in Hawaii and around the world.

    Sign-waving events will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:

    • Oahu: Ala Moana Blvd & Atkinson Drive
    • Hawaii Island: Hilo Bay in front of the Kamehameha Statue
    • Maui: University of Hawaii Maui College
    • Kauai: In Lihue, off Rice Street on the country lawn
