Fantasy football rankings 2024: Breakouts from proven NFL model that nailed Jahmyr Gibbs' big season

Historically speaking, identifying and drafting high-end running backs have been key to developing a successful fantasy football draft strategy. That hasn't necessarily changed, but there is plenty of uncertainty near the top of the 2024 fantasy football RB rankings with draft season approaching. San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is widely considered to be the top overall player in the 2024 fantasy football rankings, but beyond him, the fantasy football 2024 running back position rankings vary.
Last year, the model accurately predicted that Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs would carry significantly more value than expected during his rookie season. The result: Gibbs rushed for 945 yards and 10 touchdowns while also catching 52 passes for 316 yards and a score. Gibbs was coming off the board in the middle of the fourth round on average but finished as a top-10 running back in CBS Sports PPR leagues.
The same model has a proven track record providing Fantasy football tips, identifying A.J. Brown as a sleeper in 2020 and nailing Jonathan Taylor's monstrous season in 2021. Additionally, it's called past Fantasy football sleepers like Derrick Henry in 2019, Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara in 2018, and Davante Adams in 2017. Anybody who banked on players like those made a run at their league title.
The model is powered by the same people who generated projections for all three major Fantasy sites, and it beat human experts last season when there was a big difference in ranking. The projections update multiple times daily, so you're always getting the best Fantasy football advice.
Now, SportsLine has simulated the entire NFL season 10,000 times and released its latest Fantasy football rankings 2024, along with plenty of sleepers, breakouts and busts. Head to SportsLine now to see them .
Top 2024 Fantasy football breakouts
One of the 2024 Fantasy football breakouts the model is predicting: Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid. The former Utah standout had a solid rookie season, catching 73 passes for 673 yards and two touchdowns. Buffalo unloaded wide receiver Stefon Diggs during the offseason, sending the All-Pro wide receiver to the Houston Texans in a move that should result in an increased role for Kincaid in his second professional season.
Kincaid was a first round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and is cut in the same mold as today's top pass catching tight ends. At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, the 24-year-old is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, and he plays with a quarterback in Josh Allen who can push the ball downfield as well as anyone in the NFL. With Diggs out of the way, Kincaid has a very good chance to develop into Allen's No. 1 target in 2024.
Another breakout that SportsLine's Fantasy football rankings 2024 have identified: Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey. The Chargers were desperate to add another quality wide receiver to their offense, and they did just that when they drafted McConkey at the beginning of the second round. He is a route-running specialist who is able to create space against man coverage.
McConkey's numbers were not necessarily outstanding at Georgia, but the Bulldogs utilized a run-heavy offense and pulled starters during blowouts. Los Angeles traded veteran wideout Keenan Allen to the Bears and let Mike Williams leave in free agency, so Josh Palmer and Quentin Johnston are McConkey's primary competition for targets. The rookie is expected to see a substantial target share from the onset, making him a Fantasy football breakout candidate. See which other Fantasy football breakouts 2024 to pick here .
