New Balance has unveiled the second iteration of its first low-top basketball sneaker.

The New Balance Hesi Low v2 is targeted to fast and agile players and features a minimalist synthetic engineered knit upper to maintain a weight of just 404 grams. Full-length FuelCell cushioning typically used for New Balance’s running sneakers delivers propulsion through the midsole, and a TPU heel clip helps lockdown the foot. The outsole then features a traction pattern to increase grip and court feel no matter the direction.

Tyrese Maxey, who just signed a five-year, $204 million maximum extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, has been chosen as the face of the Hesi Low v2. In a press release, the star player said: “I’m so excited to wear the Hesi Low v2 this season. It’s the perfect shoe for my style of play — super agile and built for making quick moves on the court. I love being a part of the New Balance family and can’t wait to keep representing the brand with a shoe that blends my on-court performance and off-court style.”

At launch, the Hesi Low v2 will be available in two colorways, one in black with neon “Pixel Green” and “Neo Flame” accents that include a red, yellow and green gradient heel clip. The other pair arrives in a more humble mix of black, white and red, and more colorways are planned for release during the upcoming NBA season.

For high-tops, New Balance launched the Fresh Foam BB v2 this year. A fifth iteration of the Two Wxy sneaker headlined by Jamal Murray and worn by Maxey last season should also be introduced leading up to the new NBA season. Kawhi Leonard’s mid-cut Kawhi 4 sneaker also debuted just before the start of the NBA playoffs.

The New Balance Hesi Low v2 will release Friday, August 2, through New Balance’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $110.
