Maya Rudolph will return to her old stomping grounds at NBC’s Saturday Night Live to reprise her impression of Vice President Kamala Harris when the show returns this fall.

Several outlets reported the return, including CNN entertainment correspondent Elizabeth Wagmeister . Deadline noted that pre-production on Rudolph’s Apple TV series Loot was “pushed for scheduling reasons.” The show was set to begin shooting on August 26.

Rudolph’s portrayal of Harris became a meme-crowd favorite, especially after SNL spoofed the infamous “fly” debate between Harris and then-Vice President Mike Pence during one of their 2020 debates. (That was also the “I’m speaking” debate .) In more stunt casting, Jim Carrey portrayed then-candidate Joe Biden . Rudolph won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her turn as Harris.

When Harris became the Democratic presidential candidate following Biden’s withdrawal from the campaign, many clamored for a return of Rudolph’s Harris. Harris has praised the impression, telling Seth Meyers in 2020: “I will fully intend to make sure she has a good eight years of work on SNL.”

Rudolph periodically returned to the role of Harris after the latter became the VP, including for her Emmy-winning hosting turn in March 2021. Clearly, a mutually beneficial role.
