Jonathan Owens is championing his wife Simone Biles as she makes history at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Chicago Bears safety, sporting a custom graphic t-shirt that features a collage of Biles, posed proudly with the legendary gymnast after she won her latest gold medal.

“Witnessing history every time you step on the mat,” wrote the 29-year-old on Instagram. During the competition, Owens sat with the Biles family, appearing to take notes of his spouse’s performance.

“Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful i was there to see it.”

Normally during this time, the professional athlete would be at training camp preparing for the upcoming NFL season, however, he was able to negotiate a trip to Paris to cheer on his wife. According to ESPN, Owens has excused absences from July 29-Aug. 3 and is expected back at practice on Aug. 4.

“Just because we respect the Olympics,” explained Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus.

“That is a big deal. And he’s just supporting the one he loves the most. And I think that’s so cool that he gets to do that. We welcome that and it’s going to be awesome. Go USA.”

Family members of Simone Biles of Team United States, (L-R) her husband Jonathan Owens and parents Nellie and Ronald Biles look on during the Artistic Gymnastics Women’s Team Final on day four of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at Bercy Arena on July 30, 2024 in Paris, France.

Taking the mat on Tuesday (July 30), Biles earned her eighth Olympic medal, becoming the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympics. According to NBC News, the 27-year-old was already the most decorated gymnast in history from any country if you include world championship medals. As of now, Biles counts 38 combined world and Olympic medals.

Along with Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey, their total score of 171.296 beat out defeated Italy, the silver medalists, by nearly six points, per ESPN . It is the first time Team USA won gold in the artistic gymnastics event since 2016.

“After I finished vault, I was really like ‘whew,’ because there were no flashbacks or anything,” Biles detailed “But I did feel a lot of relief. And, as soon as I landed, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, definitely we’re going to do this.’ Yeah, that’s definitely what I was thinking.”
