ROXANA – The 2024 Little League Senior League Softball World Series has been reduced to a 9-team event following the devastation caused by Typhoon Gaemi throughout the Philippines that prevented the Asia-Pacific region champion from traveling to Delaware.

Due to destruction that significantly impacted local travel and infrastructure, the Asia-Pacific regional champion Negros Occidental LL (Bacolod City) was unable to arrive in time to participate in the event at the Lower Sussex Little League, tournament officials announced in a website posting.

“They are our 2024 Asia-Pacific Region Champions, and we will continue to celebrate their achievements on and off the field, and we are grateful for our volunteers and friends in the Philippines who have helped us navigate this situation,” the statement read.

As a result, the Asia-Pacific Region was removed from the pool play format and the tournament is proceeding as outlined at LittleLeague.org/WorldSeries.

Asia-Pacific was to be one of five teams in Pool A, with the East Region (Middletown Odessa Townsend), Southwest (Louisiana), Latin America (Puerto Rico) and the host Delaware District 3 Lower Sussex team.

Play continues this week, with the championship game set for Sunday evening.
