A big rig fire on the 15 Freeway in Devore brought commuters to halt Wednesday morning as it forced the closure of all southbound lanes, officials said.

The incident was first reported about 5:45 a.m. on the freeway just north of Glen Helen Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A rear tire of the truck first caught fire before the flames spread to the rest of the vehicle, logs show. The driver got out safely.

Officials were forced to shut down all southbound lanes as the trailer became engulfed in fire.

The two left-hand lanes of southbound traffic were reopened about 7:30 a.m., officials said.

A third lane was reopened about 1:10 p.m. as an extensive cleanup effort was underway, but two lanes remained off-limits until reopening in the late afternoon.
