Supporting Biles throughout the finals was 29-year-old Owens, a safety for the Chicago Bears .

Owens, who recently bought Biles a $46,000 gift ahead of the Olympics, had been given special permission from the NFL team to catch a red-eye flight the day before the finals.

During the finals, cameras panned to Owens in the stands, with fans spotting him taking notes during Biles’ performance, all while wearing a t-shirt honoring his beloved wife.

Seated alongside his in-laws, all were naturally ecstatic following Biles’ fifth Olympic gold medal win, which secured her status as the US’ most decorated gymnast in the Games’ history.

That evening, Owens shared a touching tribute to Biles on Instagram , with the happy couple posing for snaps while he wore her gold medal.

“Witnessing history every time you step on the mat,” he wrote .

“Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!!

“So thankful I was there to see it.”

Biles later commented on the snaps, saying, “Means the world you’re here,” as well as, “My whole heart. I love you.”

Some fans, however, were less impressed by the post, with many taking issue with the fact Owens was wearing Biles’ medal.

“Why [is] he holding it like he won it,” one asked.

“That’s Simone’s gold medal you’re holding, not yours my guy,” said a second.

“Take off that medal it’s not yours!!!” instructed another.

By comparison, others read the situation differently, such as a forth who replied, “We love the supportive husband! Always show up!”

Meanwhile, an Instagram post by Biles also went viral following Tuesday’s win.

She shared a shot of her and her teammates, Jordan Chiles , Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera , celebrating their win, along with the caption, “Lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions.”

This was seemingly a dig at former teammate MyKayla Skinner , who recently called out the women’s team in a now-deleted YouTube video, questioning their “work ethic.”

Fast forward to Wednesday, and the drama took another turn, with Biles tweeting , “Oop I’ve been blocked,” along with a series of emojis.

Biles will return to action in Paris on Thursday in the women’s all-around final.

She’ll be hoping to reclaim her gold in the event from Rio 2016, having withdrawn from the final in Tokyo 2021, “In order to focus on her mental health.”
