A drag queen who graced the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, which was dubbed offensive for its supposed reenactment of the Last Supper , has stepped up to speak out over the event .

Piche, a standout from Season 2 of Drag Race France, was part of the celebrations with fellow Queens Nicky Doll (the host of Drag Race France), Paloma (Season 1 winner), and Giselle Palmer. "We meant no harm at the Olympics," she assured TMZ.

The statement comes amid suggestions that parts of the opening ceremony bore a resemblance to Leonardo da Vinci's iconic artwork .

Organising committee members have been quick to refute the claims as performers continue to face vitriol following the event.

DJ Barbara Butch, who performed with the Queens wearing a headpiece some likened to that of Jesus in da Vinci's masterpiece, has been subjected to such severe backlash that Paris Police are now involved.

Thomas Jolly, the ceremony's artistic director, stressed that the production did not draw inspiration from The Last Supper. "My wish isn't to be subversive, nor to mock or to shock," Jolly stated.

"Most of all, I wanted to send a message of love, a message of inclusion and not at all to divide."

In a recent conversation with AP, Piche shared her delight at the queer community's representation in the show. "really happy that queer people were able to be represented in this show. There was no moment that the idea of offending someone or a religion was on somebody's mind. It was just a joyful, happy pop culture moment that most of the planet felt."

Paloma, the Season 1 winner of Drag Race France who appeared alongside Piche and Butch, stated "If the insults continue, I will join my friend Barbara Butch in her approach. For now, I am trying to focus on the thousands of loving messages I receive."

The opening ceremony scene has attracted some critics, particularly from the far right.

One such critic is controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate, who staged a protest at the French embassy in Romania with posters reading "Boycott the Olympics" and "Christianity will not be mocked."

In a recent interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, former U. S. President Donald Trump was asked about the comparisons between the opening ceremony and the Last Supper. He responded: "I'm very open-minded, but I thought what they did was a disgrace."
