High School football Week 0 schedule in central Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The 2024 high school football season is fast approaching as teams prepare to begin their quest for a state championship.

Week 0 begins Aug. 22 and will run through Aug. 24. Several schools hired new head coaches including the Hoover Buccaneers. The Bucs hired former Clay-Chalkville head coach Drew Gilmer, as he hopes to bring the Bucs back to atop the 7A Region, which has been dominated by Thompson and Central-Phenix City since 2017. Gilmer compiled a record of 81-12 and won two state championships in three years with the Cougars.

Hoover begins their season Aug. 24 on the road against Western (FL) High School. The defending 6A state champion Clay-Chalkville Cougars will host Hueytown on Friday, Aug. 23. And lastly, on Thursday, Aug. 22, Gordo High School will host Fayette County
