Jonathan Majors ‘Heartbroken’ After Robert Downey Jr. Return to MCU

Jonathan Majors is “heartbroken” over Marvel Studios’ decision to pivot away from him and bring back Robert Downey Jr. to play Doctor Doom.

Majors’ was spotted in Hollywood this week, where he shared his reaction to Marvel’s recent surprise announcement that Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday . Majors said he was “heartbroken” over the decision but admitted that Doctor Doom was a great character to cover.

What did Jonathan Majors say about Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU?

“Yeah, heartbroken. Of course,” Majors said in response to a question from TMZ . “I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though.”

TMZ then asked Majors how he felt about the careers of actors like Downey Jr. and Ezra Miller , who have a controversial history but have found work in Hollywood after the fact. Majors said he was glad to see both actors receive “patience and curiosity and love,” something he doesn’t think he was afforded.

“I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love . . . and [he’s] being allowed to work [his] art and be creative at that level,” Majors said. “I didn’t really get that.”

Late last year, Majors was convicted of three counts of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment. These stem from an incident in 2023 in which Majors allegedly struck then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari “about the face with an open hand, causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear.” Additionally, he allegedly grabbed her hand and neck, “causing bruising and substantial pain.”

As a result of his conviction, Majors was sentenced to having to take part in 52 weeks of a domestic violence intervention program and probation.
