The live-action Spider-Man Noir series at Amazon has cast Abraham Popoola as a series regular, Variety has learned.

Popoola joins previously announced lead Nicolas Cage in the series as well as cast members Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, and Li Jun Li. The show, currently titled “Spider-Noir,” was formally ordered to series in May with Cage in the lead role. As previously reported, the show will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel and then globally on Amazon Prime Video.

Per the official logline, the show “tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

The name of Popoola’s character is being kept under wraps, but the official character description states he is “a World War I veteran who is looking for an opportunity to get ahead.”

Popoola most recently appeared in the Netflix sci-fi film “Atlas.” He has also been seen in films like “The Marvels,” “Cruella,” “Morbius,” and “Jingle Jangle.” He will also appear in the upcoming spinoff film “John Wick: Ballerina,” which is slated to premiere in theaters in June 2025. In television, he has been seen in shows like “Andor,” “The Great,” “Starstruck,” and “The Rig.”

He is repped by IAG, Artists First, Independent Talent Group, and Gang Tyre.

“Spider-Noir” hails from Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series with the “Into the Spider-Verse” team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, all of whom will also executive produce. Harry Bradbeer will executive produce and direct the first two episodes. Pascal executive produces via Pascal Pictures, while Lord and Miller executive produce via Lord Miller. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Lord and Miller currently under an overall deal at Sony.
