Goldberg ‘Should’ve Known Better’ About Promise Of One More WWE Match: ‘That’s My Fault’

Goldberg blames himself for believing that he would have one more match in WWE.

The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion wrestled his last match at Elimination Chamber 2022. He fought Roman Reigns with just three weeks notice, after suffering badly from COVID.

Despite this, he answered the call and put over the Universal Champion in Saudi Arabia . He was released by the company after that, making it the last match of his career so far. While he wanted to wrestle against Sting in Israel, that match never materialized.

Goldberg spoke on Insight with Chris Van Vliet about his last match. He talked about how he answered the call from Vince McMahon despite being unable to breathe due to COVID.

Goldberg on the promise of one more match

He noted that he was promised one more match by the company. However, Goldberg admitted he “should have known better” when believing the former WWE Chairman.

“It sucks. I had COVID three weeks before I was asked to do it. It was horrible,” Goldberg said. “It was a favor, you know—it was my job. I’m not going to say no; I’ve never said no, really. And I was asked to wrestle twice a year. They were caught between a rock and a hard place, and I was their answer, right? And I feel like I did them a favor, and that’s why I thought that the favor would be reciprocated. But it is what it is, man; it is what it is.

“I’ll never forget the phone call I got when I was in bed,” he continued. “I couldn’t even breathe. I felt like ass, I couldn’t even get up. ‘Think you can make Saudi in three weeks?’ ‘Sure, I’ll be there.’ ‘You promised me a match after that?’ ‘Sure.’ Yeah, I should have known better. That’s my fault.”

“It is what it is”

Despite McMahon not keeping his promise (and being forced out of WWE), Goldberg says he can’t sit around and cry about it. If he wanted another match, he could feasibly do it somewhere, but the truth is he’s still keeping himself busy in other ways.

“I mean, I’m a big boy, it is what it is. If I really wanted that to happen, I could go do it myself. I could go to India and do it, I could go to Israel and do it. I could go to Japan and do it, I could do it here in the States. The fact is though, the past six years, I’ve poured every ounce of my soul into my son, and I haven’t even used this weight room barely,” he said. “But now he’s out the door. I got to fill my time with a bunch of stuff. So I’m working on my cars and I’m training again, I’m going to get stem cells, bio accelerator down in Columbia. I’ve got this new TV show going I’m going to roadkill nights in Detroit August the 10th. I’m actually living again.”
