Sussex Council holds off on indoor/outdoor firing range

GEORGETOWN — The Sussex County Council on Tuesday July 30 decided to consider an application for an indoor/outdoor firing range its Planning and Zoning Commission recommended for partial approval and partial denial.

Despite vocal support from area police who would like to use the range for training and certification, the council was convinced the noise from the outdoor range would burden area residents, as evidenced by testimony during the previous hearing, and decided to consider the action at a future meeting.

The planning and zoning commission recommended the indoor portion be approved, but said the outdoor portion could present issues. The council agreed, and voted unanimously to defer its decision.
