The North Carolina Education Lottery has reported on a huge scratch-off win by a Hertford County woman.

According to NCEL, Odessa Chamblee, of Ahoskie, took a chance on a $20 scratch-off and won a $2 million prize. She bought her lucky 100X The Cash ticket from the Village Store on N.C. 41 in Wallace.

When Chamblee arrived on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 to collect her winnings, she could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $100,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $1.2 million. She chose the lump sum of $1.2 million and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $858,006.

For details on how money raised by the lottery made an impact across the state last year, go to nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.

Congratulations! I wouldn't have one complaint if I made $858,006 off a $20 ticket. I would not be crying about what the government took.
