Things between the New England Patriots and linebacker Matthew Judon have not been going great.

Judon originally said he didn't want to play on his current contract, but he would if he must. However, things took a turn on Monday when the linebacker came out and partook in his daily game of catch with the fans. Once the music came on and the players started the stretch period, Judon walked right over to the side and sat on a bunch of mats. Plus he didn't have his pads on which was very telling, considering it was the first day of padded practice for the team.

After a heated discussion with head coach Jerod Mayo along with a later one with Eliot Wolf, he left the field.

And then on Tuesday, Judon wasn't anywhere to be found and it was even reported he wasn't in the facility.

So where do things stand now?

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini , the Patriots made an offer to Judon following the situation over the past two days.

However, Judon quickly squashed that report on X, formerly known as Twitter.

That prompted another report from Russini.

"Matthew Judon was offered a few revised contracts from New England before training camp, they have yet to agree on a re-worked deal, per sources," Russini wrote.

So it seems nothing has changed between the two sides.

A refresher of what went down on Monday

The day started out as it usually does.

Judon came up the steps and took the field in his traditional red sweatshirt, but did not have his pads with him. No one thought anything of it, thinking that one of his teammates might bring it up for him before the start or practice.

The linebacker then ran over to the fans and began his daily game of catch with those in attendance. He had a smile on his face, showing no signs that anything is wrong.

However, once practice began and the players headed over the the field to begin the stretch period, things got weird.

Judon simply walked over to the sideline with his teammates, but still did not have any pads on. He didn't even have his uniform.

Instead, he hopped up on a bunch of the mats, sitting and watching as his teammates began the first padded practice.

With him not participating, Mayo walked over to the linebacker and began having a discussion. Based on the body language, it didn't seem things were going well. And it resulted in Judon walking away.

He left the field briefly but was spotted back out again, this time in a t-shirt and flip-flops. Judon then had an animated exchange with director of player personnel Matt Groh and executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf.

He then left the field once again.

So basically, this seems like a hold in, despite Judon having participated during the first four days.

And it comes after he told reporters he would play on his current contract even thought he isn't happy with it.

"I mean, if I got to, honestly. That's again, like I signed a deal. My signature is on it. So I got to play on it. Would I like to? No. Do I think that's my value? No. But again that's not up to me," the linebacker said on Wednesday.

    Some Speculation

Along with Judon, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux is looking for a new contract. And Godchaux's agent, Drew Rosenhaus was at Gillette Stadium for practice on Monday. Rosenhaus had a long discussion with director of player personnel Matt Groh, and at one point, executive vice president of football business Robyn Glaser joined in.

Following practice, Rosenhaus and Godchaux spoke with head coach Jerod Mayo.

So that could mean that a deal is close to getting done. And if that's the case, Judon could be upset that everyone else is getting paid except for him. (But this is all just speculation).
