Cowboys HC has confusing but highly fitting description of team's four-time Pro Bowler

There might not be a more underrated player on the Dallas Cowboys than defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, a four-time Pro Bowler that might not light up the stat sheet with sacks but is a crucial part of the team's defense and one of the best run defenders in the entire NFL.

While D-Law might not be flashy enough to reach the superstardom status that Micah Parsons enjoys, he's one of the most complete defenders in the game and someone the Cowboys would miss dearly if he wasn't around, a very real possibility after the 2025 NFL season, by the way.

But Lawrence not only brings it as a player : He's a critical leader in the locker room as well. Which is why it was special to hear Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy discuss the defensive end while providing a confusing yet highly fitting description of him.

"When I first came here in 2020, you pull up your old game plans from you know playing the Cowboys (in the past) and one thing you know that we talked about D-Law was he's a bowling ball full of butcher knives," McCarthy told reporters on Wednesday . "And he's he's he's that kind of player."

I gotta be honest with you: I'm not exactly sure what that means but I know it sounds perfectly accurate.

Lawrence is a mean player on the field that can bully offensive linemen on his way to making impressive tackles versus the run and has very good technique in the pass rush department. He's a ferocious player inn the trenches and certainly and not a stranger to trash talking, as he consistently talks about punching teams in the mouth.

"Bowling ball full of butcher knives" is quite the confusing image but still, it feels right for someone like him.

"And that's what I think everybody knows and loves about him, so I mean, he's hard all the time, he's been a good leader for us in my time here, commands the respect and he's earned it," McCarthy added.

Lawrence is set for a huge 2024 NFL season, particularly with Sam Williams going down with a season-ending ACL/MCL injury and Micah Parsons moving around to spend time at linebacker. The Cowboys will need D-Law to step up when No. 11 is off the line of scrimmage and probably to take on a very high snap count with little to no experience on the team's bench.
