Golden Retriever's Amazing 'Light-Up Shoes' Are So Cute People Can't Take It

If you wanted to be the coolest kid in elementary school, you had to have light up shoes. There were no two ways about it; stomping your foot on the ground so the lights would go off until the teacher yelled at you is almost a universal childhood experience.

Apparently, we're now carrying the tradition over to our dogs. It's not enough that you're sending your kids to school with these incredible shoes, but on Friday, July 26th, one dog parent showed us that we all need to get some for our dogs, too:

The Golden Donut is the coolest pup around. I just know he has so many friends that he can't even remember all of their names!

Donut is from Florida, so him needing shoes makes sense, even in the winter time. He has more than one pair so he can be rocking in style no matter the occasion, but one of his pairs is not like the other: they light up, and they have sweet little Buc-ee's charms on them!

Donut's mama did not buy the shoes like this, as she says in the caption. She got a pair of regular shoes, some charms that would fit them from her local Buc-ee's, and some lights for the shoes from Amazon. You have a few options: light up shoelaces, which work better for human shoes, or "runners' clips," which are lights that clip onto shoes so you can safely run at night. Donut's shoes have the clips on them.

How to Keep Dogs Safe on Nighttime Walks

As amazing and cool as Donut's shoes are, they're also just a generally good idea. Shoes will help him keep his paws cool in the Florida sun , and having the light on them makes the dog easier to see.

If you're taking your dog on a walk at night, you should:

    1. Make sure you tell someone where you're going.
    2. Have your location services turned on for someone you trust through an app like Life360.
    3. If you're in an area without streetlights, bring a light of your own.
    4. Bring a reflective leash/harness so a car's headlights will pick it up.
    5. Keep your dog on a leash at all times.
    6. Pick up after the dog, even if it's dark.

You and your dog both have pretty good gut instincts. If you feel unsafe or like something is wrong, get somewhere safe as soon as you can. Bringing a buddy with you is always a good idea, too - if only to have two sets of eyes on the pup. Luckily, they can see Donut's cool shoes from space!
