As she seemingly does every time she touches the water, Team USA swimmer Katie Ledecky is flat-out embarrassing her competition.

At 27 years of age, the Stanford graduate is inching closer to being the most accomplished swimmer of all time for Team USA. Her latest Olympic gold medal, which came in the 1,500-meter freestyle, officially tied her with legend Jenny Thompson among others for having the second-most medals earned by any swimmer in Olympic history with 12. Those two, along with Dara Torres and Natalie Coughlin, are all tied for being the most-decorated women's swimmers of all time. They trail only Michael Phelps who has a substantial lead, with 23 Olympic medals, for the most all-time.

Not only did Ledecky win the gold, but she dominated the Wednesday event at the Paris La Défense Arena. Her time was the seventh fastest in the history of the women's free trailing only herself, as she holds the top 20 times ever for the event according to TruMedia . In fact, Ledecky was beating the rest of the field by so much that NBC actually had to change the camera angle to at least show the rest of the competitors in the event.

The silver medal in the event went to French swimmer Anastasia Kirpichnikova, who finished with a 15:40.35, 10 seconds slower than Ledecky. As for the Team USA legend, she recorded an Olympic record 15:30.02. For reference, Ledecky recorded a 15:47.43 time during her qualifying round, which means she shredded nearly  17 seconds off of her time.

Ledecky made it clear on social media that she was eager for this event, as she took to Instagram with the following caption:

"Felt good to race again this morning, 1500 final up tomorrow! 🇺🇸 Proud of my teammates on some amazing performances, let’s keep it rolling 🥰."

In terms of whether or not this will be her final Olympic showing, Ledecky told NPR recently that she plans on competing in at least one event in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

"I take things year by year, but right now, I definitely could see myself competing in 2028, with it being a home Olympics," Ledecky said to NPR in May. "It's something that's very unique. It's something that not every Olympic athlete gets, and so I definitely know I'm not retiring after this summer, and 2028 is very appealing."

As for the rest of the Paris games, she will have two more chances at gold. Ledecky, who made her Olympic debut at just 15 in the 2012 London Games is set to be a part of the 4x200-meter freestyle relay on August 1, and the Women's 800-meter freestyle on August 2.
