Manchester United's new signing, Leny Yoro, is set to be sidelined for two months due to a suspected broken metatarsal. The $76 million (£59 million) recruit from Lille sustained the injury just two matches into his United stint during Saturday's 2-1 pre-season friendly loss to Arsenal in Los Angeles.

Footage showed the 18-year-old Frenchman on crutches, his left foot encased in a protective boot, as he boarded a bus at United's LA training base at UCLA on Wednesday. Yoro has moved to Old Trafford after being linked with Liverpool only to make the move to their Premier League rivals.

Should the worst-case scenario be confirmed and Yoro has indeed fractured his metatarsal, he would be ruled out until late September at the earliest, missing the start of the season. An update on Yoro's fitness is expected from United on Thursday, with boss Erik ten Hag likely to face questions about the center-back's situation.

Yoro was forced to limp off just after the half-hour mark against Arsenal following treatment. With Lisandro Martinez yet to return to training after representing Argentina in the Copa America, Ten Hag may have to rely on Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in defense for the Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford on August 16.

United is on the hunt for a second center-back this summer and has been in discussions with Bayern Munich over Matthijs de Ligt, while an increased offer for Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite has been turned down. With Yoro's injury and expected lengthy spell on the sidelines, United's pursuit of another center-back is likely to speed up, especially with Victor Lindelof set to depart before the transfer window shuts.

Raphael Varane has already left, moving to Serie A side Como after his United contract expired. Young defender Willy Kambwala, who filled in several times last season, has made a permanent move to Villarreal. Ten Hag's squad will be back from their US tour in time for the Community Shield at Wembley on August 10, with the league opener against Fulham just six days later.

This marks the second consecutive season where a high-profile United signing has been hit by an injury shortly after joining. Mason Mount faced numerous setbacks last season following his move from Chelsea, but the England international is now fit and ready to makeup for lost time.

Mason Mount, during the pre-season tour, shared with club media: "This is such an important time for us as a group, to put the work in, to work at a few different things we're going into the season trying to do," and "We don't normally get loads of time to prepare for games during the season. You have maybe a few days if you're having two games a week."

He continued: "So now we have an extended period of time where we can work at things together and build something. That's definitely what we've been doing over the last two weeks and then obviously coming out here. So ramping it up, really feeling good in the group and there's a really good vibe. So yeah, we'll be ready."
