Men’s U.S. Gymnastics Fans Have Given Stephen Nedoroscik & His Girlfriend The Most Fitting Nicknames

You know you’ve charmed the world when you get a nickname, and American gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik is the country’s newest sweetheart.

After crushing his performance on the pommel horse during the men’s team finals at the Olympics on July 29, Stephen made history by helping his team achieve bronze, their first medal since 2008.

His girlfriend, Tess McCracken, has been by his side the whole way, and spectators can’t help but notice how cute the couple is together. Because Stephen famously wears glasses and takes them off when he goes into performance mode—and he’s a hero of sorts—he’s been dubbed the Clark Kent of gymnastics, making Tess Lois Lane.

She told NBC News she finds the attention amusing.

“I have people like tagging me, calling me ‘Lois Lane.’ I’m like, ‘OK, I’m not going to be mad about it,'”

According to People , Stephen, 25, and Tess, 26, have been together for eight years after meeting in college. She said that even though the they’ve been together a long time, she was not expecting so much attention after Stephen’s performance.

“Blowing up on the internet has been such an unexpected side effect of this whole adventure,” she told NBC News.

“[Seeing] the general public and the internet … go on and on about him and just make all of these memes — it has been one of the best times,” she continued. “… I love them so much. I’ve retweeted almost every single one.”

Following her boyfriend’s incredible performance, Tess shared a tribute to Stephen on X, where she posts as @stephens_gf and calls herself, “Ms. Pommel Horse.”

She wrote, “History = Made,” she wrote in the caption. “The most insane, magical day watching you close it out to bring home the first team medal for USA in sixteen years Words can’t capture how proud I am of you .”

Stephen has another chance to medal in this year’s game during the men’s pommel horse finals on August 3.
