Rollover Crash Claims Life of Teen Driver

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a fatal crash that killed a teenage driver. 

According to an emailed media release from VSP Sergeant Brent W. Coffey, the incident occurred Sunday, July 28, 2024.

At 1:35 a.m., a 2002 Honda Accord was traveling west on Mayland Road (Route 259) in Broadway, at a high-rate of speed.  The vehicle crossed a double solid yellow centerline, ran off the left side of the road, and struck an embankment and fence before overturning near Zirkle Lane (Route 946). 

The driver, Gadge Matthew Crawford of Timberville was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. Crawford, 17, died at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
