Fans Roasting ACC For Celebrating Katie Ledecky’s Olympic Win

United States swimmer Katie Ledecky once again won a medal at the Olympics. On Wednesday night in Paris, she won the 1,500-meter freestyle, adding her eighth gold medal to her impressive resume .

Her victory in the event was a big one, as no swimmers were even close to her when she finished the race.

The reactions came pouring in from social media as fans marveled at the display she put on during the Olympic Games.

One surprising reaction came from the ACC account on X (Atlantic Coast Conference).

"𝐎𝐋𝐘𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐂 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐃 Ledecky bringing home the gold. #AccomplishGreatness x #OlympiansMadeHere"

Ledecky went to Stanford for her college days and was nothing but a success during her days with the Cardinal.

But Stanford was in the Pac-12 then, and it remained in the Pac-12 until just now, when it is making its transition to the ACC and beginning its first year in the conference.

Fans took note of this gaffe by the ACC, which claimed Ledecky despite Stanford barely joining the conference and Ledecky never competing in it.

"Absolutely not, ACC. This is stolen valor," one fan wrote on X. Another said, "New greatest Stolen Valor Via Conference Realignment ever."

The ACC legend takes started to circulate as well. "ACC legend Katie Ledecky," Geoff Schwartz wrote. Ben Portnoy also wrote, "Thinking about ACC legends Toby Gerhart, Missy Franklin and Bryson DeChambeau on days like today."

"Yes, ACC legend Katie Ledecky," Geoff Grammer wrote.

The haymakers from the fans also kept coming: "1) Katie Ledecky is incredible. 2) She has never raced as a member of an Atlantic Coast Conference Team. 3) This tweet could have stayed in drafts."

Nicole Auerbach wrote on X, "OK. I really don’t think the ACC gets to claim this."

The ACC added all of Stanford, Cal, and SMU beginning in 2024 as the Pac-12 Conference shrank to just two schools, Oregon State and Washington State.

So, while Stanford is technically in the ACC now, it seems like a stretch to take credit for someone such as Katie Ledecky.
