Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan has paid tribute following the mass stabbing in Southport that shook Merseyside on Monday.

Three children were killed during the horrific incident, while 10 others were injured at a Taylor Swift-themed event. Merseyside Police has since arrested a 17-year-old male from Banks in Lancashire on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with the attack.

Liverpool paid its respects at the scene of the incident, with former players Phil Thompson and Robbie Fowler laying a wreath. Anthony Gordon, who began his career at Everton and has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, has also donated £10,000 ($12,860) to a GoFundMe account set up in response .

The Reds also paused for a moment’s silence during training on their tour of the United States, and will do so again along with Arsenal before tonight’s game in Philadelphia. Ahead of that game, Hogan gave his thoughts on the tragic events in Southport with an emotional message.

“Tragic, horrific events that took place in Southport,” Hogan told the club’s media. “As a father myself, I’ve got a nine-year-old daughter, and I can’t imagine what those families are going through.

“I know we’re all the way in the US on the pre-season tour, but I can tell you everybody at the club has been deeply impacted by what’s going on back at home. I just want to make sure everybody knows we’re sending our thoughts, our prayers and our love to victims and the families, their friends, and to the wider Southport community.

“There are a number of ways we’ve tried to show our support and respect, we came together with Everton as soon as we were made aware what was going on. I’d like to thank Phil Thompson and Robbie Fowler for representing the club yesterday and laying a wreath at the scene.

“During training yesterday, the team paused, the staff and the players, again to show their respect. Tonight before the game, we’re here in Philadelphia, the players, the staff, the supporters, along with Arsenal, are again going to show our support and respect with a moment’s silence before the match.

“It’s really our way of trying to send our thoughts and prayers and love to those who have been impacted by these absolutely horrific events.”
