DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — To celebrate 150 years of service, a local church gave back to those in need within the community.

According to a release, Christ Episcopal Church worked alongside Undue Medical Debt to pay over $1.6 million in unpaid medical debt belonging to 853 residents in Montgomery County.

“When Christ Church considered how they wanted to kick off their milestone celebration,
they knew it needed to begin by leaning into the call to liberation,” said the release. “Their campaign raised $15,968.25 over the course of 8 weeks.”

Recipients that had their debt paid off didn’t have to apply. The organization said the individuals were contacted that they no longer owed money for their medical treatment. It is reported that the debt paid was for individuals “least able to pay.”
