Miss Peaches Dazzles with New Talent While Sporting Her Signature Smile

Even if you never plan to let your dog run off-leash, teaching them to come when called is essential. I was recently reminded of the importance of this command after discovering a giant snake (nonvenomous, thankfully) was trapped in our fenced-in area. My natural-born French Bulldog mix hunter went after it, moving much faster than I could.

Luckily, we had been practicing our recall, and the moment I called her name, she listened. The famous Miss Peaches has also recently mastered this skill, and she’s doing it with gusto!

America's sweetheart is doing a terrific job with her trainer, Tom Davis (@ tomdavis )! The moment he said her name and the word “come,” she looked up and headed his way without hesitation. It’s easy to see why he’s such a renowned trainer. The instant she heard the command and looked at him, he said “yes” and continued praising her as she followed his request, and she was so happy doing it! With my stubborn snake chasing the dog, my swift praise was the key to having her follow instructions, and it will undoubtedly continue to pay off. Just like it will help Miss Peach’s dad, Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy, keep her safe. As Tom points out, one crucial rule for dogs who are off-leash in public is having them come the first time you ask, even with distractions.

Importance of Recall Training

Whether it’s an aggressive animal, traffic, or an emergency , capturing your dog’s attention and leading them away from danger is essential. When your dog is in public, teaching them to come when called can help keep them away from other animals or people who may not be so welcoming of their attention. It can also help reinforce the bond we share with our cherished pups and give them the mental stimulation they require. I know my dogs spend the entire afternoon napping after only 30 minutes of this training.
