There has been a lot of talk about his career, though Goldberg doesn’t want to be retired-but is he?

Goldberg had a nice career. He even got to enjoy an unexpected second act with WWE, including championship gold. But what he didn’t get, and he wants, is a retirement tour. That elusive farewell match. Some formal, ceremonial adios. While he’s seen guys like Ric Flair get one (more than one, really), all Bill Goldberg wants is one.

At one time, it seemed he might have one through a private venture. That would have been similar to what Flair did for his “last match” show. Which shouldn’t have happened, considering his health and scare because of it. Not long after, there was some discussion about possibly joining AEW and enjoying that final run. While Goldberg and Tony Khan have chatted, nothing ever materialized. Plus, Goldberg called AEW cheesy, which probably ended that.

    So what next?

In an interview with Chris Van Vlie t, Goldberg said he feels like he’s basically been forced into retirement. Nothing is happening, no final match opportunity is yet materializing. He isn’t quite calling himself retired, but it feels as though the choice has been taken out of his hands. Some of that likely changed because someone like Vince McMahon is no longer in WWE to want the nostalgia. However, it’s entirely possible that Triple H decides a farewell match for Goldberg would boost an upcoming major show. That feels a bit like something we’d see in Saudi Arabia, but thus far, nothing has happened.

Honestly, I get it. As bad as it might be, Goldberg wants to go out on his terms. And as things stand right now, he did not have a say in what currently sits as his final match. Maybe it’s now less about wanting a final match and more about him not having much control over it anymore. Goldberg eventually will be retired. But for right now, he says he isn’t.
