Benton County Fire District 1 battles three blazes along North Dallas Road

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. -- Benton County Fire District 1 battled three blazes along North Dallas Road Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials said the fire sparked just after 2:30 p.m. along North Dallas Road and Interstate 82.

Fire crews were using hose lines to douse the flames with water while battling the blaze.

There were three fires total, two were able to be contained quickly after units arrived to the scene. The biggest fire took a little bit longer to contain and spread to at least 10 acres.

People nearby could hear the flames spreading to dry brush in the area. Fire crews had engines in the field spraying water.

No roads were closed and its unknown if anyone was hurt.

Crews will be mopping up hotspots in the area.

It's unknown how the fire started.

Rep. Newhouse visits Benton REA Prosser substation to discuss utility wildfire mitigation

PROSSER, Wash. — Tuesday, Representative Dan Newhouse toured a new Benton REA substation in Prosser. He met with the Benton REA to discuss utility wildfire mitigation efforts. Fires are burning all around the Pacific Northwest, and Newhouse said the goal is to lessen the amount of fires, and minimize the catastrophic nature of wildfires.

Tri-Cities hosts National Horseshoe Pitchers Association’s World Tournament

KENNEWICK, Wash. — The National Horseshoe Pitchers Association World Tournament kicked off Monday at the Toyota Center and Arena, and lasts through the weekend. This is the first time the horseshoe pitching world tournament has happened in the Tri-Cities, let alone Washington state, and the top-tier competition is open to the public.
