ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A Rochester police officer was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after crashing during a chase involving a stolen car.

According to police, a 61-year-old woman was sitting in her car on Middlesex Road in Rochester when two men forced her out of her car, got inside and took off. The victim was not hurt in the initial robbery, and no weapons were used to threaten her.

About two and a half hours later, patrolling officers spotted the stolen car in the area of Jay Street and Orchard Street. After attempting to stop the car, police said the suspect driver took off. A brief chase ensued shortly after this.

RPD said the Sergeant gave chase until another car crashed into him at the intersection of Portland Avenue and Central Park in Rochester. The officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for what police said were minor injuries. The driver of the other car, who police said was a 65-year-old non-city resident, was treated and released at the scene.

About a half-hour later around 4:30 p.m., police said the stolen car was once again spotted, this time on Cummings Street in Rochester. According to police, the suspects ran into a nearby home. Attempts made to talk with the people inside failed.

Police said the car was eventually towed from the backyard of the home and officers left the area. Anyone with information regarding the robbery or the pursuit, is asked to call 911.
