Man charged with making fake 911 call, claiming neighbor was threatening wife in Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – Summit County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man accused of making a fake 911 call this past spring.

Summit County dispatchers received the 911 call on April 30.

According to investigators, the caller told dispatchers that his neighbor was holding his wife at gunpoint in the front yard on Greensburg Road.

“Hurry and send help, he’s about to pull the trigger,” the caller reportedly said.

Multiple sheriff’s deputies were sent to the scene, but when they arrived, investigators say they found a woman, who was unharmed, and no man at the property.

The woman told deputies that nothing happened there and that she knew nothing about the 911 call, according to the sheriff’s department.

Investigators quickly learned that the caller, identified as 44-year-old Joshua Ake of Uniontown, had allegedly been leaving harassing messages on the woman’s phone ever since they had a disagreement, the sheriff’s office said.

“The voice on the victim’s phone matched the voice on the 911 call,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

A warrant was then issued for Ake’s arrest for making false alarms.

Months later, he was arrested on Tuesday and taken to the Summit County Jail. According to the sheriff’s office, additional charges are pending in the swatting case, which remains under investigation at this time.
