Katie Ledecky is in a league of her own. The American swimmer's dominance in her field is well-documented, but it always impresses everyone. Ledecky's mastery of her craft was on full display in the Olympics.

Ledecky, 27, once again won the 1,500-meter freestyle, and she captured the gold medal. Her 15:30.02 time was not enough to beat her own world record, but it was more than enough to beat the previous Olympic record of 15:35.35.

Ledecky owned that previous record. The American swimmer set it in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

With the gold medal win, Ledecky is now tied for the most gold medals won by a woman in the Olympics. After her win, the American swimmer shared her reaction, saying she was proud to represent the U.S.

Ledecky was once again dominant in the finals of the event. The silver medalist, Anastasiia Kirpichnikova from France, finished ten seconds behind the American. Indeed, it was a performance that cemented her status as one of the greatest in the sport.

The legendary swimmer now has a chance to become the most outstanding female Olympian of all time. Ledecky is one gold medal away from tying Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina for the most gold medals by a woman. Latynina has nine medals from the three Olympics in 1956, 1960 and 1964.

With two more events coming up for Ledecky this year, that feels like a very real possibility for her. After expressing her intent to play in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, she might just blow that record out of the water.
