WAYNE, NJ – For the second time in as many months, Wayne Police have arrested a package thief who stole a delivery of “multiple cell phones” from a home in Wayne - according to Wayne Police Public Information Officer, Detective Captain Dan Daly.

Now Wayne Police are advising residents to be vigilant when expecting the delivery of a cell phone, and to call them if they see anything suspicious.

“We do believe that the thieves are somehow becoming aware of these cell phone deliveries,” said Daly. “The means by which they are learning that information is under investigation.”

Here’s how this second suspected cell phone thief was caught…

It was on home security camera footage that a man was seen in a blue Amazon vest taking packages off the front porch of a home in the Heritage Manor neighborhood in Wayne Township, on Tuesday afternoon, July 30.

One of these packages contained multiple cell phones.

When the homeowner saw what had happened, he called Wayne’s Finest, who was able to find the suspected thief and arrest him before he left town.

“The resident provided the physical description of the suspect and his vehicle,” said Daly. “Members of the Wayne Police Patrol Division and the Wayne Police Detective Bureau then began searching for the suspect.”

It was Detective Sergeant Mark Ciavirella who located the suspect heading east on Ratzer Road. He flicked on his lights, got behind the car and pulled over the suspected package thief. When more officers arrived as backup, Ciavirella approached the car and saw open packages in the back seat along with a blue Amazon vest, according to police.

“The packages were removed from the vehicle and found to contain the multiple cell phones and other items that the resident reported as expected in the delivery,” explained Daly.

Police then called the victim of the package theft to the scene, who quickly confirmed that the packages in the car were the ones he had been expecting and that they were addressed to his home.

That was all the police needed and arrested the suspect, identified as Cesar A. Feliz Moquete (28) of Jersey City.

“Mr. Fleiz Moquete was charged with two counts of Theft on a complaint summons,” said Daly. “He was released in accordance with bail reform guidelines. The charges against him are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
