WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – When students in Washington County return to the classroom on Thursday, they’ll see lots of renovations at the middle school.

Built in 1995, it’s one of the oldest buildings in the district. It includes a complete overhaul of the inside with a new library, gymnasium, classrooms and technology.

“You want the kids and the teachers to feel proud of where they’re going, and you want to make sure that everybody is safe and secure. And we’re adding some new security measures that we have in the other schools, that will make this, it’ll just be a better learning environment for the kids,” said Vickie Harden, Superintendent, Washington County School District.

Renovations began in March. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2024-2025 school year.
