JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – It’s the first day of school in Jefferson County and this year, students will many familiar faces.

Lots of teachers and staff are returning to the school system. It’s something the superintendent says he’s happy to see because it helps build a stronger teacher-student relationship.

“We want to pay attention to the social and emotional side, and we want to make sure that every student has a caring adult in the building. I told the new teachers yesterday, every child deserves an adult that’s crazy about them. Every child deserves an adult that loves them. And really we have about 2,000 kids that each one of us should be loving on each day,” said Dr. Sam Dasher, Superintendent, Jefferson County School District.

This school year, Jefferson County has around 200 teachers.
