Elliott was the architect of both goals during the preseason friendly with Mikel Arteta's squad, initially threading a pass to Mohamed Salah and then delivering a clever lofted ball to Carvalho in the box. The synergy between the two former Fulham prodigies was palpable, with Carvalho later admitting to Liverpool.com that their connection is deeply rooted: "I've known Harvey for a long time, played together at Fulham and we get on so well on and off the pitch," he said.
"We were talking about that after the game (the assist and goal), it was like the old days in the under-18s."
Both aged 21, Elliott and Carvalho have ascended through Fulham's youth system before joining Liverpool , where they fostered a solid rapport under ex-coach Jurgen Klopp. While Elliott has carved out a more consistent role in the first team, Carvalho, who has had stints away on loan, is poised for greater involvement under Slot's regime.
Carvalho, who linked up with Liverpool after Elliott, having signed in 2022 expressed his aspirations. "That's the target, to stay here," he stated. "I'm just having fun and enjoying the time I'm here and I'm learning a lot of new things."
Klopp had faith in Carvalho and sent him to RB Leipzig last season on loan, but the stint didn't pan out as hoped. The young Liverpool talent struggled for playing time in the competitive Bundesliga and returned to England earlier than planned.
Back in England, Carvalho switched to Hull City on a loan deal, where he started to shine in the familiar territory of the Championship. His impressive performance nearly propelled Hull into the playoffs, with nine goals in 20 appearances, quickly making him a crowd pleaser.
Continuing his upward trajectory, Carvalho has caught the eye of Slot during preseason training, securing a starting position against Arsenal. Adjusting to a new coach instead of Klopp, Carvalho is embracing the change.
"It's good! Some of the principles are still the same but obviously, he wants us to play a certain type of football that is a bit different to what we've been used to," Carvalho commented. "We're adapting every day, just taking on board what he says which is great. We're having fun but working hard."
Slot's reputation for nurturing young talent is already benefiting Carvalho, who has quickly gained the coach's confidence. This could lead to more regular playtime next season.
As Slot evaluates the team left by Klopp and anticipates transfer moves in August, it seems Carvalho will be given the opportunity to showcase his skills at Anfield without the need for loan spells.
