Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has generously donated £10,000 ($12,770) to a GoFundMe page which was set up for victims of the Southport stabbings earlier this week. He follows in the footsteps of the likes of Anthony Gordon , who has made an equally substantial donation to the cause.

The fund page , titled ‘Southport Dance Group Emergency Fund - 29th July 2024’, was launched following the tragedy which saw three children killed. It has raised over £70,000 ($89,000) at the time of writing.

Alice Dasilva, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Bebe King were the victims of stabbings which took place on Monday at the Hart Space on Hart Street in Southport, during a Taylor Swift dance class. Her fans have also set up a fundraising page, with the super star singer offering her own message of support.

“The horror of yesterday's attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I'm just completely in shock,” Swift posted on Instagram. “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families and the first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to those families,” she added.

Earlier this week, Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan sent a message to the victims . "Before we start I just wanted to say that given the events that have taken place in Southport, the terrible events that have taken place there, our thoughts are with the victims of the families, so I didn't want to start without acknowledging that,” he said.

The club’s X (formerly Twitter) account also posted a message of support. “Liverpool and @Everton football clubs come together to send our love and support to all those affected by today’s tragic events in Southport. You are in our thoughts and prayers,” it read.

A moment of silence was observed ahead of the Reds’ first pre-season friendly following the incident too, the 2-1 win over Arsenal in Philadelphia . The players also wore black armbands during the match. Gerrard's donation is simply part of a wider outreach from the whole Liverpool community, pulling together in a time of supreme difficulty.
