Playwright and actor Jordan E. Cooper has landed a role in Freak Friday 2, where he’ll star alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.

The multifaceted star will play a character called Jett in the follow-up to the body-swapping comedy.

Cooper has a pretty impressive resume. He’s a Tony Award-nominated actor, playwright, producer, and director. His critically acclaimed play Aint No Mo’ saw him become the youngest Black American playwright in the history of Broadway. Among the play’s six Tony award nominations was one for Cooper himself for his performance as flight attendant, Peaches.

Cooper has starred on television in BET’s The Ms. Pat Show and FX’s Pose. He also has his own production company called Cookout Entertainment.

What else do we know about Freaky Friday 2?

Freaky Friday 2 will see Curtis and Lohan reprise their respective roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. Also returning from the 2003 movie is Mark Harmon as Ryan, Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Christina Vidal Mitchell as Maddie, Haley Hudson as Peg, Rosalind Chao as Pei-Pei, Lucille Song as Pei-Pei’s mom, and Stephen Tobolowsky as Mr. Bates.

“A sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist, the film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”

Other newcomers to the cast include Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood), Sophia Hammons (Up Here), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place, The Acolyte), and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever).

Nisha Ganatra is directing Freaky Friday 2. Ganatra previously directed movies such as 2005’s Cake, 2019’s Late Night, and 2020’s The High Note

Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn, and Curtis are producing the movie, while Lohan, Nathan Kelly, and Ann Marie Sanderlin serve as executive producers.

The original movie drummed up a respectable $160.8 million at the box office in 2003, and has remained a beloved movie since. It was a remake of the 1976 Disney movie of the same name that starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster.
