Did Katie Ledecky win? How she, Team USA finished in 4x200 free relay

The swimming rivalry between the U.S. and Australia is alive and well.

Katie Ledecky and Team USA settled for silver in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay Thursday as Australia topped the podium with a new Olympic record. China won bronze.

Ledecky now has 13 Olympic medals — the most ever for a U.S. woman Olympian.

Team USA was in search of redemption at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay after the Americans narrowly missed out on the gold three years ago in Tokyo, finishing a mere 0.4 seconds behind China. Despite surpassing the Chinese team this time, the Australians thwarted the Americans' quest for ultimate redemption.

Ledecky closed the gap on Australia’s lead in the third leg, but Australia’s anchor Ariarne Titmus, the silver medalist in the 200m free, ran away with it in the final leg.

Team USA altered its lineup for the final, selecting Claire Weinstein, Paige Madden, Katie Ledecky, and Erin Gemmell. Only Gemmell had also competed in the preliminaries earlier this morning.
