Hazy skies for another day and more Sun on the way

Thursday's Weather Headline: Classic summer weather drags on with high pressure and Sarahan dust overhead. Eyes still watching the tropics. Read on for more details.
What we're tracking: Upper level high pressure drags on overhead the next several days keeping us in the summer heat on par for average highs. The Sarahan dust plume that arrived Tuesday with heaviest activity yesterday continues but will blow away going into tonight. Air quality is expected to be moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups, so those with respiratory deficiencies may want to stick indoors. A weak surface high developing nearby Friday into Saturday will ensure skies stay clear over the weekend and keep it a tad hotter, but only by a couple degrees for some. An upper level trough coming off the Rockies today will track into the Northeast Coast over the weekend swinging a cool front through the country but stalling and dying before reaching Central, TX. This will allow for possible spotty showers on Sunday when the front stalls and dissipates. Next week's very low rain chances will be from afternoon sea breezes. Tropical details can be found below. Alert Days: NONE.
Tropical Activity: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is still watching a tropical wave currently tracking through the Bahamas and Antilles islands. The NHC suggests a 60% chance that this system will strengthen to tropical depression status or greater over the next 7 days and 20% that it will develop in the next 48 hours. The good news for us in Texas is all computer model guidance are agreeing on landfall somewhere in Florida between Destin and Tampa. Timing looks to be late Sunday or on Monday. High pressure over Bermuda is steering this wave NW into the Gulf, but a trough leftover from last week's rainy system will clash with the wave and curve it East into Florida's west coast. Another trough that came off the Rockies yesterday will act as a shield for us ensuring the system does not steer west closer to TX or LA. In the Crossroads, rip current risk will likely be very high, common with distant storms and hurricanes. However, the FOLLOWING two weeks will likely see even more tropical development... THE Climate Prediction Center is watching the Atlantic. Find their outlook at the link here . You can also find more details from the NHC here .
Next 24 hours: Summer weather is expected today and tomorrow. Plentiful sunshine. Highs in the low-mid 90s today with some in the northwestern counties reaching the upper 90s tomorrow. With 13+ inches of rain for some last week, humidity will be very high during the midday bringing heat indices up to 108-110 for some today and tomorrow. Saharan dust overhead today will make for hazy skies. You will notice the skies won't be a pretty blue but instead tinted yellow. Winds occasionally gust today up to 15 mph SE, calming mostly tomorrow.
Extended forecast: Highs push on in the 90s with possible upper 90s and low 100s for some later next week... Summer is in full effect! See below for your hot 7 Day Crossroads forecast!
