Kayy Mackenzie, 30, met her 54-year-old husband Davey in a pub, where they instantly clicked.

After just two weeks of dating, the pair moved in together and got engaged.

They spent the first few months of their relationship in lockdown together, having first met in late 2019, and officially tied the knot in December 2021.

They described spending the pandemic together as “a learning curve for both of us” but said they quickly “bonded.”

“I knew he was my soulmate so I didn’t see the point in waiting,” Kayy said about their quick engagement.

Despite their significant difference in age, Kayy explained that the pair didn’t notice the gap at first.

“Funnily enough he thought I was older than I am and I thought he was younger but age doesn’t matter to us, it’s just a number,” she said.

“I was surprised at first when he said he was nearly 50 but I didn’t give a toss at all.

“I’ve never considered age at all in relationships, I’ve always wanted a guy who is older than me so they can look after me.”

The musical theatre performer added that her husband’s “loving caring” attitude is what mattered to her.

And Davey revealed that it was love at first sight when he first met Kayy.

“I was first drawn to Kayy when I saw her walk into the room, she looked so beautiful and loving,” he said.

“Something about her just made me go, ‘Wow, she’s the one.’

“We don’t notice the age gap. Love is love, not numbers. We have a very similar attitude really, she’s mature.”

While the couple don’t pay any attention their generational gap, they are faced with their age difference on a regular basis.

They explained that they are often mistaken for father and daughter when they’re out on dates.

“Restaurant staff see us together and comment on how nice it is to see a dad and daughter out for dinner,” Kayy said.

“They always look so embarrassed when I tell them we’re married.”

“I was slightly embarrassed at first to be mistaken as a father sometimes, but I don’t care too much now, I find it quite amusing,” Davey said.

The decorator does have three children from previous relationships, all aged in their early twenties.

“But there are no issues now – when we see each other we all get on.”

She explained that online trolls have criticized them for their age gap but they don’t care.

“People have tried to attack our relationship in the past yet we’ve always remained unbreakable,” Kayy said.

“We’re very strong and extremely happy.”

She explained that their difference in age means they complement each other well.

“He brings a lot of wisdom from a lot of life experience and I teach him modern things like how to use his phone properly,” she said.

“He’s made me more grounded as a person, when I’m upset, instead of just going silent or getting annoyed he’s taught me to talk it out with him.”

The pair have plans to move “somewhere coastal, by the beach” soon, and are planning on having children in the future.
