As the 2024 Paris Olympics captures the zeitgeist, the “Summer of Gold” podcast — about the American female athletes who dominated the 1996 Atlanta games — is set to become a limited series.

Emmy winner Uzo Aduba (under her Meynon Media banner) and CBS studios will produce the TV adaptation of the successful six-part podcast. Executive produced by basketball legend Sue Bird and soccer star Alex Morgan (both Olympic gold medalists themselves), “Summer of Gold” revisits the historic achievements of American female athletes at the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta, from the “Magnificent Seven” gymnasts to the USA women’s basketball, soccer and softball teams all winning gold, to the founding of the WNBA.

“The 1996 Olympics were a transformative moment for women’s sports, and with the excitement building for the 2024 Games, it’s incredible to reflect on the progress made in the coverage and recognition of female athletes,” said Morgan in a statement about the partnership. “We look forward to championing these incredible athletes and their lasting impact on future generations.”

The series aims to delve deeper into the stories of the athletes, their experiences and the legacy of the 1996 Games. It will also address the ongoing issues of unfair media coverage, financial investment and gender equity in sports.

Added Aduba: “The impact of 1996 by women in sports had a lasting reach on the world. The tectonic shift from that time continues to reverberate today, touching the lives of so many people. My company, Meynon Media, is proud to partner with Alex Morgan and TOGETHXR to bring these important stories to the screen that shaped lives both athletically and culturally.”

The “Summer of Gold” podcast is a Dear Media original, presented by TOGETHXR, a women’s sports media and commerce company focused on youth and equality storytelling, which Morgan and Bird co-founded alongside Jessica Robertson, Chloe Kim and Simone Manuel.

“At Dear Media, we are constantly pushing the boundaries beyond audio, and are thrilled to bring the compelling narrative of ‘Summer of Gold’ to a broader audience through television,” said Dear Media CEO Michael Bosstick. “This transformation from audio to visual storytelling is a testament to the powerful and compelling narratives we’ve cultivated at Dear Media. We can’t wait to bring these vibrant stories to a wider audience and continue to celebrate the voices and experiences that have resonated so deeply with our listeners.”
