Just a few months ago, American Idol honored Katy Perry when she decided to step away from the show. A judge for numerous seasons, the hitmaker showcased her years of experience as she helped shape a new generation of singers alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. But when she decided to leave, many wondered who would take her spot. Fans offered countless theories, but in the end – it appears the job went to a former American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood. Winning season four, the country star caused a firestorm online when news dropped she would be joining American Idol.

While bringing a rich career to the show, Underwood knows what it is like to stand on the other side of the competition. Back in 2005, the singer took her chance and auditioned for American Idol. Like many before her, Underwood was thrilled just to get a chance to perform in front of the judges. But that was just the start as she dominated the competition and walked away as the winner. Looking at what fans had to say about the addition of Underwood, comments included, “I begrudgingly watched #IDOL periodically over the last few years. It was boring to me, just didn’t have that excitement of the first years. If this is true and my favorite #AmericanIdol is going to be a judge. I will be watching every episode! Love @carrieunderwood!”

Fans Already Preparing To Watch Every Episode Because Of Carrie Underwood

Although the new season of American Idol is still months away, fans are already preparing to tune in every week. “I haven’t watched it in a few years so if the reports are true i will tune in every week.” And another person added, “I feel like a lot of people will be like you! I have watched it for like the last 7-8 years because I liked watching Luke and Katy (and of course the talent) but Luke and Carrie have a goofy and playful relationship too so I’m excited to see that if he is still a judge as well.”

Besides being a winner of American Idol, Underwood’s legacy in the music industry included several Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and even inductions to both the Grand Ole Opry and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Releasing nine studio albums throughout her time in the spotlight, the country star’s last album, Denim & Rhinestones, hit shelves back in 2022. And it seems fans might have to wait on new music as she looks to take over American Idol.
