The ongoing romantic Chinese drama, The Best Day of My Life, starring Zhang Jiongmin and Jiang Zhinan, released episode 12 on July 31, 2024. The series tells the story of high school friends Xu Mu (Jiang Zhinan) and Xie Shi (Zhang Jiongmin), who cross paths in their adulthood.

The latest episode focuses on recollections from Xie Shi’s tragic past. Nian Nian and Shen Yi have a big news to share with their friends. They reveal that they have decided to tie the knot. After Nian Nian and Shen Yi get extremely drunk and go to sleep in the other room, Xu Mu and Xie Shi have no other choice but to share a bed. In her sleep, Xu Mu cuddles with Xie Shi. She wakes up to find herself in his arms. Feeling embarrassed, she pretends to be asleep when Xie Shi wakes up.

The awkwardness follows her to the breakfast table. She tries to make small conversations to cut the tension. Meanwhile, Xie Shi receives a call from an unknown number. He takes a look at the number and his expression changes. He immediately declines the call and sends a text to the mystery call, asking them not to call him again. Xie Shi notices Xu Mu trying to have a peek and assures her that it is not a girl.

After finishing work. Xu Mu texts Xie Shi but he doesn’t respond. She tries to call him but still he doesn’t pick up. She rushes back home but can’t find any trace of him. After Xu Mu enters the bedroom, she finds him laying on the bed, his body burning up with fever. Without wasting any more time, Xu Mu brings him cooling patches, makes him porridge and stays by his side till he falls asleep.

The next day, Xie Shi’s troublesome father waits outside his apartment. He is the one who has been harassing him with calls. He asks his son to lend him money. When Xie Shi refuses he pushes him, grabs him by the collar and also threatens to destroy his mother’s stuff. Having no other choice, Xie Shi gives him his card.

Xu Mu sees the whole thing from afar. She decides to contact Xie Shi’s aunt to know more about his family history. His aunt reveals that growing up Xie Shi and his mother faced abuse in the hand of his father who had a gambling problem. After his mother fell sick, he was too proud to ask for help and he learned to use both of his hands. Eventually his mother passed away.

Hearing about Xie Shi’s traumatic past, breaks Xu Mu’s heart. She rushes home and embraces him. She tells him that she wants to build a family with him. The couple shares a soulful hug. Xie Shi reveals that he doesn’t regret his past as it made him into who he is today.

What happens in The Best Day of My Life episode 12’s ending?

Further into the episode, Xu Mu finds Xie Shi’s old school magazine, with a specific date and her name written on a page. When she asks Xie Shi what the annotation means, he reveals what happened to him in 11th grade. He moved to Jiangbai with his aunt. He fell for Xu Mu at first sight when she passed by him on the street, carrying a wounded cat.

After that he saw her everywhere but never mustered up the courage to talk to her. After transferring to her school, she became his deskmate. He did everything he could to protect her from troubles. But he put on a cold demeanor to hide his feelings.

After reading a poem written by Xu Mu, he decided to confess to her. But his letter got lost and Xu Mu never read it. He mistakenly thought that Xu Mu had rejected him. After a few days, he moved abroad.
