DESTINY developer Bungie recently announced that over 200 employees would be ‘eliminated’ from the company.

The statement from the company reads: “This morning we shared an important update with the Bungie team on the difficult decision to eliminate 220 roles at Bungie.”

This round of layoffs follows 100 employees that were let go nine months ago, a year after the company was purchased by Sony.

Around 25% of Bungie’s employees have lost their jobs within the last year, as mass layoffs have hit the industry.

This is despite the success of Bungie’s flagship game, Destiny 2, being hugely popular and financially successful.

Employees and Destiny fans have been devastated by the news and immediately took to social media to express their disappointment.

CEO Pete Parsons immediately locked his Twitter account so that he didn’t have to face the social media backlash.

However, this hasn’t stopped people from doing investigations into Parsons and his luxury spending habits.

Bungie was purchased by Sony back in 2022, and Parsons told employees that this would have no effect on employees.

Since the layoff announcement, a programme manager for Valorant who goes by the handle boxrTailored tweeted out what they allege is Parsons’ account on classic car auction site bringatrailer.com.

The account is called bngParsons, and people believe that the bng refers to Bungie.

BngParsons has purchased more than $2.4million (£1.9million) in vintage cars since July 2022 when Sony acquired the company.

The last purchase was a Chevrolet Corvette for $91.5k (£71.5k) on June 1, but a bid of $59.5k (£46.5k) was placed as recently as July 19 for a BMW M5.

Notably, bngParsons bought a 1971 Porsche 911S Coupe for $201k (£157k) on November 22, 2024, just three weeks after the first round of layoffs.

A comment bngParsons wrote following the purchase says: “In all seriousness I drive and care for my cars as a personal passion.

“Going to a great home enjoyed by my family and the tours I give to underserved kids.”

BngParsons also writes that the bid war for the Porsche was “fun” despite going over what he was hoping to spend.

One former Bungie employee who was laid off this week, wrote about Parsons’ fascination with cars: “You also invited me to come see your new cars TWO DAYS before you laid me off.”
