The only way to get an iPhone user to use a Google Pixel 8 phone is to gift it to them for free. It is a marketing ploy that can slowly shift a blue text bubble to green if they’re open-minded. I have been an iPhone user since the day I traded in my Blackberry. That was my introduction to adulthood. I loved the sleek shape, accessibility functions, and user-friendly design. I was, and still am, loyal to Apple, but when Google gifted me the Pixel 8 phone to capture content on my trip to Thailand, I knew I had to see what the hype was about.

The rivalry between team iPhone and team Android is intense. Many romantic relationships come to a halt after the initial green/blue exchange, and friendships are often dismantled the second they make the group chat become unequally yoked with a green text bubble. Both Android and iPhone users are fiercely loyal to the brands, boasting quality photos, accessibility, and user-friendly functions.

I felt like a traitor as I activated my Google Pixel 8. My iPhone 13 worked well, but the camera quality was debatable. I wondered if my lack of photography skills was the reason or if it was time to upgrade to the latest device with a stronger lens. Either way, I was determined to document my trip abroad with my droid and access its photo capabilities. Here are 5 things I loved about using my Google Pixel 8 while on vacation.

The Google Pixel 8 phone is perfect for content creators

I’d like to consider myself content-creator adjacent. I throw a few reels and TikToks together, but I don’t generate tons of views, and my posts aren’t monetized – yet. I create content documenting my shenanigans, from brand trips and celebrity interviews to travel diaries and unboxings. Crisp, clean videos and images are needed to tell each story accurately, and I achieved that with my Google Pixel 8.

The video and camera captured the vibrance of the scenery, elevating the quality of my typical content. The phone uses macro focus, a camera feature that clings to detail, vivid colors, and contrast.

You can remove unwanted items in the background

Gone are the days of using another app to edit photos. If there’s a photo bomber or unwanted obstruction like trash in your frame, the phone allows you to discard it with the magic eraser. I tested the function by removing the sign behind me in the first photo. Not only did it disappear, it left no evidence of its existence. I love this feature because the quality of the image isn’t compromised and it is easy to edit.

Google Pixel 8’s portrait mode boasts sharper, detailed images compared to the iPhone

Images taken in portrait mode highlight the subject by blurring the background, marking the photo’s focal point. I captured my beverage in portrait mode with both phones. The Android produced a vivid and detailed picture of the drink, while the iPhone simply blurred the background of an otherwise lackluster photo.

    Great settings for nighttime photos

I often struggle with finding the right setting for nighttime photos. I’ve learned to adjust the lighting, but in most cases, my pictures look washed out or grainy. The Pixel 8 has a nighttime setting that adapts to its surroundings. I tested both the regular and nighttime settings, and the quality of the images was radiant. The photo above was taken with the regular settings, and the photo below was taken with the nighttime settings.

Filters or animation can take images to the next level. However, after spending the day capturing content, there is no desire to find the best photo enhancements. Each morning, I’d wake up to a variety of stylized photos and animations curated by Google AI. The picture above is a still image, but when posted, the water ripples softly against the sunset.

I’m so impressed with Google Pixel 8’s photo quality, editing functions, and capabilities, that I decided to use it exclusively for content. There are tons of other perks like the long-lasting battery life and You can learn more about the phone here .
