    Two new festivals joining August events lineup in the Poconos

    August is a packed month for fairs and festivals in the Poconos. Here are nine events to get to before Labor Day, from the long-running Wayne County Fair to the new Pierogies and Pints Festival and Taste of Zakopane/Poconos Polish American Festival.

    Wayne County Fair

    The 162nd Wayne County Fair kicks off the month.

    Tickets are $12 per person (2 years and up) and include free parking and free rides. Seniors (62+) and veterans (with ID) pay $6 on Friday, Aug. 2, and Wednesday, Aug. 7.

    When: Aug. 2-10

    Where: 270 Miller Drive (off Route 191)

    Carbon County Fair

    Admission is $7 daily for ages 6 and up. Rides are $18 on Tuesday and $20 on other days.

    When: Aug. 5-10

    Where: 3285 Little Gap Road, Palmerton

    West End Fair

    Admission is $8 for those age 11 and up and free for younger visitors. Several special offers are available, including free rides from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, free admission with a military ID on Tuesday and $4 admission for seniors (65+) on Wednesday and students (with school ID) on Thursday.

    When: Aug. 18-24

    Wally Lake Fest

    Wally Lake Fest highlights include Wallypalooza, when live bands play on the lake from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and the Ride for the Lake, which benefits the nonprofit Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District.

    When: Aug. 23-25

    Where: Lake Wallenpaupack area

    Greene Dreher Sterling Fair

    The 10-day GDS Fair returns on Aug. 23.

    Tickets are $10 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and $8 from Monday through Thursday. The week pass is $30 ($20 for senior citizens with ID) and the mega pass, which includes daily admission, rides and most shows, is $60.

    When: Aug. 23-Sept. 1

    Where: 457 Crestmont Drive, Newfoundland

    Pocono State Craft Festival

    The festival at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will have demonstrations, live music and artisanal bread for sale in addition to arts and crafts.

    Admission is $6; kids 12 and under get in for free.

    When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25

    Where: 347 Quiet Valley Road, Stroudsburg

    Pierogies and Pints Festival

    Blue Mountain Resort is hosting its first Pierogies and Pints Festival . Attendees will choose the best pierogi in three categories — traditional, dessert and creative.

    Tickets range from $12 for general admission to $39 for the Pierogi Pro ticket, which provides eight samples, a mug and one free beer or soft drink.

    When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25

    Where: 1660 Blue Mountain Drive, Palmerton

    StroudFest

    Just ahead of Labor Day, the Sherman Theater presents a free festival with music on multiple stages and numerous vendors.

    When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31

    Where: Downtown Stroudsburg

    Taste of Zakopane/Poconos Polish American Festival

    Poconos Park will celebrate Polish culture at the first Taste of Zakopane/Poconos Polish American Festival . There will be music, dancing, food and appearance by Polish celebrities and athletes.

    Tickets start at $9.99 for general admission.

    When: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31

    Where: 265 Tom Ridge Drive, Bushkill
